Children's Programs

 

Services Provided:

  • Nightly playtime and art activities for children ages 2 to 17.   -  Our activities incorporate lessons on anger management, conflict resolution, self-esteem building, coping skills, and respect for self and others.

  • Weekly family nights where mom and child have fun together

  • Weekly parenting workshops, parenting magazines and helpful handouts/flyers.

  • Special events and community involvement throughout the year.

  • Family needs assessments.

  • Referral Services

  • Supplying of immediate needs-baby items, school supplies, child size toothbrushes, pajama's, clothing, strollers, etc.

  • Mott Children's Health Care Birth to 6 Screening.

  • Emergency school enrollment at Washington Elementary and school support services.

  • Tutoring through GISD's project link.

  • Caring, Knowledgeable, and supportive staff.

Special Touches:

  • Every child receives a quilt/sleeping bag and a stuffed animal when they arrive at the shelter.

  • If a child has a birthday while at the Shelter, we have a party complete with cake, ice cream, and presents.

  • Every child receives hand-knitted hats, mittens, and slippers in the winter.
